The top heating element provides the main heat, cooking, and a crispy crust on the top of the food. The lower heating element is located at the bottom of the air fryer and helps achieve better cooking results, especially for foods that are difficult to turn, such as smaller cakes, casseroles, or thicker cuts of meat.
